Got something worth saying about small business? We’d love to hear it- and so would our readers.
SmallBizTalks is open to contributions from founders, operators, marketers, finance professionals, and anyone who’s learned something the hard way and wants to share it with people who could actually use it. If you’ve been in the trenches and have the scars (or the wins) to prove it, you’re exactly who we want to hear from.
We cover the topics our readers deal with every day: business strategy, marketing, technology, startups, finance, and entrepreneurship. The best pieces we publish aren’t broad surveys of a topic- they’re specific, experience-driven, and leave the reader with something they didn’t have before. A tactic they can test. A framework they can use. A mistake they now know to avoid.
Think less “10 Tips for Growing Your Business” and more “What I Learned Trying to Hire Our First Salesperson Without an HR Department.”
Non-promotional, full stop. Guest posts are editorial content, not advertising. Your article should not promote your product, service, or company- even subtly. No links to commercial websites, no anchor text pointing to a business landing page, no mentions that read like a product pitch wearing a byline. If your goal is visibility for your brand rather than value for our readers, a guest post isn’t the right fit, a sponsored post is (see below).
Practical and specific. Vague, high-level advice doesn’t land. We want pieces grounded in real experience, with concrete examples, honest takes, and actionable insight. If you’re making a claim, back it up. If you’re giving advice, explain why it worked or why it didn’t.
Original and exclusive. We only accept content that hasn’t been published elsewhere, including on your own site or LinkedIn. Don’t submit something that’s already live somewhere, even in a slightly different form.
Length. Between 900 and 1,800 words is the sweet spot. Long enough to say something meaningful; short enough to respect the reader’s time.
One author bio link. You’re welcome to include a brief bio (2–3 sentences) and one link to your personal website, LinkedIn, or portfolio. That’s the extent of self-promotion in a guest post.
We do accept sponsored posts from businesses. A sponsored post is clearly labeled as such and gives you more latitude to discuss your company, product, or service but it still has to be genuinely useful to our audience. Nobody wants to read a thinly veiled product brochure dressed up as an article. We’ll work with you to make sure the content earns its place on the page.
If you’re interested in a sponsored post, please mention that clearly in your pitch so we can share our rates and availability.
Send your pitch to [biztalkssmall@gmail.com] with the subject line: Guest Post Pitch: [Your Proposed Title]
Include a short paragraph explaining what the piece is about, who it’s for, and why you’re the right person to write it. If you have a rough outline, even better. We don’t need a full draft upfront, a tight pitch is enough to start the conversation.
We read every submission and aim to respond within 5–7 business days. If you haven’t heard back after that, a single follow-up is welcome.
We’re not looking for perfect writers. We’re looking for people with real experience and something genuine to say. If that’s you, get in touch.
