As a boss, it’s important to keep your company running like a well-oiled machine. You must be authoritative so that your employees respect you and stay on task. However, you don’t want to be too strict and demanding. Your employees seek appreciation for all the hard work they are doing for your company. Your staff will only want to increase their productivity and do better if you reward their efforts.
Throw a Staff Barbecue
If the weather is nice enough, nothing is better than a day outside drinking beer and eating burgers. Especially after a long week of being cooped up in the office. This is a great way to celebrate if your team is doing exceptionally well as a whole. Cook some hamburgers, hot dogs and veggie burgers on the grill. Order a hot wing bar for the day. Provide some potato, macaroni and fruit salad as vegetarian options. Don’t forget to pack a cooler with beer, wine coolers and soda. Host the barbecue in your backyard and invite guests to bring bathing suits. If you feel uncomfortable inviting your employees to your home, host the barbecue at a local state park.
Create a Point System
Implementing a point system is a great way to track each employee’s individual progress. Point systems may seem childish since it’s a tactic many teachers use on students. However, adulthood doesn’t stop you from wanting to earn treats or finding this method effective. You can assign point values to accomplish projects before deadlines, coming to work on time and random acts of kindness. As employees score more points, they earn better prizes. Prizes can start as mugs, T-shirts and water bottles and go all the way up to T.V.s, coffee machines and trips.
Give the Gift of Knowledge
Even though your employees have graduated from college, they should never stop learning. There are still plenty of ways for your employees to gain new skills. Pay for an employee’s online courses. Take them to a seminar or conference to gain wisdom from influencers in their field and network. Give your team memberships for sites that teach skills relevant to your business or their personal interests. Providing educational opportunities for your employees not only rewards them for good work but it also benefits your company because they can contribute these new skills to their projects.
Running a business is much easier when you have a good team behind you. It’s important to praise them for their efforts so they feel good about contributing to the company.
